Question: Why do we need a memorial?
Answer: To remember those that perished on September 11, 2001, to educate our children on the events of 9/11/2001, to foster pride and build unity in our community, and to recognize, respect and honor our first responders.
Question: Where will the memorial be located?
Answer: The memorial will be located on the middle east side of School Street pond. This location was chosen due to the the tranquility of the area which will allow for a quiet space for personal reflection.
Question: What will be included in the memorial?
Answer: As the artist’s rendering depicts, there will be a concrete base area with a limestone and brick structure, limestone benches, and a flagpole.
Question: Why is a memorial being built now, after so many years?
Answer: The goal for this project is to be sure the events of September 11, 2001 are not forgotten. The lives that were lost, the heroism of our military, law enforcement, fire departments, medical personnel, destruction cleanup crews at all of the sites and all civilians that played critical roles in the event deserve to be remembered. The 9/11 event created a Patriotic bond and unity within our nation. In today’s world we need a reminder to respect and build unity with our military, law enforcement, fire departments, medical personnel and each other. Let this memorial serve as a reminder of how we as a world, nation, and community responded to his evil action by strengthening our bonds with one another.
Question: When will the memorial be built?
Answer: This is a 36 month project. Every attempt will be made to complete sooner but there are several variables that come into play, such as raising funds, availability of contractors, and availably of materials.
Question: Are you affiliated with the Rose Hill Historical Society?
Answer: We are under the umbrella of the Rose Hill Historical Society which makes us a non-profit group.
Question: Are donations tax deductible?
Answer: The Rose Hill Historical Society 9-11 Memorial Committee is classified as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization by the standards of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Therefore, your donation may be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Question: What do the stars in the concrete slab at the memorial represent?
Answer: The stars bring a patriotic look and feel. They symbolize many elements in society including clarity, protection and hope. The stars will also help us raise money to fund the project. With a donation of $5,000, the donor’s name will be forever etched in a star.
Question: Can someone donate to have a name etched on one of the memorial base bricks?
Answer: We are in the process of determining a donation amount for the bricks that will be affordable for an individual or family to purchase.
Question: Will there be fundraising events?
Answer: Yes. You will see many fundraising events. The first event, Red, White & Blue Bingo, was a great success!
Question: What can someone do to help with the project?
Answer: Spread the word, support the fundraising events, ask others to donate. Most importantly, help make sure that the events of September 11, 2001 are not forgotten.
